Guided Hiking

Baja has many great hikes that reveal spectacular spots and natural features and take you to areas you did not know existed.  Poco Cielo has many great hikes nearby that are favorites of locals and tourists alike.  Here are the local hikes we guide with time and difficulty levels listed.

These are all day hikes which require little more than good hiking shoes or sneakers and a daypack with water and snacks.   Call ahead to reserve your hike and guide and to make special arrangements.

Las Palmas Canyon Loop

Las Palmas canyon is located just South of Poco Cielo Hotel and highlights the mountains that form the La Mision Valley and Estuary.  This is a moderate level hike with a 600 foot elevation gain over approximately a half mile.  Boulder hopping, small pools and trickling creeks, steep rock canyon walls, lots of natural flora andfauna and magnificent views of the Pacific Coastline make this a great hiking loop.  The hike starts in a campground with parking and full services and goes up the canyon and tops out along the La Salina ridge. The downhill leg of the hike crosses down through the La Mision Estuary walking along the water and back to the start.  About 2 hours round trip.

This hike is literally ten minutes from Poco Cielo Hotel and can be undertaken at any time of the day.   $35. Per Person

Rosarito's Best Beach Walk

There are beach walks and then there are beach walks.   The only reason we list this walk as a guided hike is that it is so spectacular.  More than just sand this walk includes tide pools, rocky ledges and points, cliff scrambling, magnificent sea caves and the infamous 'Power Spot' sea cliff arch - where you have to get your picture taken. (This should be a national park it is so beautiful). We guide it because many of the sections of the beach included here are inaccessible to the general public and you would never see this beach otherwise.   This is a moderate 2 mile loop that is good for the cardio vascular system as well as the soul. (1 hour 20 minutes total).  Located at the south end of the City of Rosarito, it can be combined with a visit to the Popotla Fishing Village.  Low tide is best, but this hike can be done anytime.  Coordinating this hike with sunset is also a great idea.   $20. per person (minimum 2 persons).   This hike will require a 20 minute drive from Poco Cielo Hotel to the starting point.

El Palmar Canyon Rim Hike

This hike takes you up to the beautiful canyon ridge above the El Palmar area

just north of Poco Cielo Hotel.

This 2 hour+ round trip hike is approx. 4 km long and is great for just about anyone.

Smooth roads or natural trail options plus

the opportunity to take your well behaved dog make it a great experience in morning

or afternoon.

This hike leaves from the Adventure Center

at Rancho El Palmar which also has a complete waterpark - making it a nice combination for families who want to cool

off after a good hike.
